As a regular person who has an 8-hour job working 5 days a week, it is easy to forget that we need a form of relaxation too. Most of us tend to stay at home and be with the family or hang-out with friends. I, on the other hand, prefer to seek nature, to usually hike and to travel on weekends. I came across with Balay Hilom Spa and did not hesitate to try their signature massage.
As a traveler I often set aside body pains and somehow, I’ve grown accustomed to it. It seems to be an endless cycle of muscle pain and fatigue after travels and have your body recover as you are working during weekdays. This Traditional Spa gives a much-needed relaxation to my stiff muscle knots. The kneading motion definitely eased the pain from lactic acid build-up. Almost immediately my muscles easily relaxed and I felt relieved from everyday stress.
Balay Hilom Spa: A Gift of Tradition
This Spa is promoting local forms of massage from the provinces. The services that they offer is from traditional healing techniques by our ancestors. During my session, it really sinks in that this form of massage is our own, and this is something that we can be proud of as a Filipino. With every kneading motion, I felt like I am traveling across the Philippines that felt almost a daydream! I remember vividly the time when I was in Siquijor needing a massage after an accident. The culture of giving a massage to a loved one that is embedded in the people of Cordilleras after a hard day’s work. I hiked Mt. Ulap several times and it is challenging doing as a leisure, but the locals hike every day because it is the way to their farms.
As soon as you enter the door it felt like going to a different place! From the hustle and bustle of city traffic just outside the building, Balay Hilom Spa will slowly charm your senses through the ethnic beats of Kulintang (a percussion instrument) that resonates the place! The front desk gave us a warmly welcome and made sure that we are comfortable while waiting for our turn, a warm foot rinse was given and a cup of tea or warm water will be served to you.
Hilot Balay Hilom is a 70-minute deep tissue massage it promotes better circulation and breathing. It feels rejuvenating and I had one of the best sleep in years after I went home after this massage session. The therapist is really gentle and never fails to inform me if a certain pressure will somehow hurt because of my stiff muscles. I also love how they break knots it is really gentle compared to other spas that they apply the pressure that almost hurt. In Hilot Balay Hilom they do more of accurately pinching the knots instead of putting pressure on the whole area.
I am really curious about Dagdagay and Hilot Suob and I will have these next time after I hike Mt. Apo. Definitely, I will go back after hiking or a backpacking trip for a simple weekend relaxation. The whole experience is rejuvenating that I had one of the best sleep after I got home.
